Louis O. Kelso, Inventor of the ESOP

Born in Denver, Colorado, in 1913, Louis Kelso was educated in the public and parochial schools of that city and its suburbs. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1937, where he received his LL.B. in 1938. Mr. Kelso was a corporate and financial lawyer, economist and lecturer having written numerous publications listed in the Appendix. He headed a major San Francisco law firm, where he practiced for many years. From 1938 to 1942 he practiced law in a large firm in Denver, specializing in municipal bond financing and public finance law. He served as a Naval Intelligence officer during World War II and held the position of Associate Professor of Law at the University of Colorado during 1946. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Institute for Philosophical Research in San Francisco and is universally recognized as the founder of the ESOP.
